How to split a PDF

  1. Select Choose file or drop a PDF on the page. Its page count appears once it has been checked.
  2. Under How to split, pick Extract pages into one PDF, Every N pages (several PDFs) or Single pages (one PDF per page).
  3. To extract, type the Pages you want, for example 1-3, 5, 8-. To split every N pages, set Pages per file. The summary shows how many files and pages you’ll get before anything is created.
  4. Select the split button (Split PDF, or Split into 4 PDFs when there are several parts). Download one file with Download PDF, or several with Download all (ZIP); each part also has its own download button.

Page ranges

5
A single page.
1-3
Pages 1 to 3.
8-
Page 8 to the last page.
-3
The first page to page 3.
5, 1-3
Several parts, separated by commas. Pages come out in this order; a page listed twice is included once.

What is kept

Pages are copied exactly as they are, with their size, rotation, text and images. Each output file is named after the original: report-pages-1-3.pdf for extracted pages, report-part-2.pdf for every N pages, or report-page-7.pdf for single pages. Several parts come together in report-split.zip.

Each part is a new document: bookmarks and the original’s title and author are not copied, and form fields may not keep working.

Troubleshooting

  • “… is beyond the last page (…).” The range asks for a page the PDF doesn’t have. The number in brackets is the last page; the count is also shown next to the file.
  • “… goes backwards.” Write ranges with the lower page first: 3-5, not 5-3.
  • “… isn’t a page or a range.” Only numbers, dashes and commas work. Separate parts with commas, not semicolons or the word “and”.
  • “… is password-protected.” Remove the password in a PDF reader first, then try again.
  • “… couldn’t be read.” The PDF is damaged or incomplete. Download it again, or re-save it from a PDF reader.

How your data stays private

Everything happens in your browser, on your device. Your files and text are never uploaded, never stored, and never put in the address bar.

  • The site’s security policy (connect-src 'self') tells your browser to block any attempt by the page to send data to another server.
  • Only your preferences, such as the theme and a tool’s last-used options, are saved in your browser’s local storage. Never your content.
  • To check it yourself, open your browser’s developer tools, select the Network tab, and use the tool: no request carries your data.

There is no account, no sign-up and no watermark. After your first visit, pages open without a connection; a tool’s larger parts, such as the PDF and image engines, are saved the first time you use it, so it works offline from then on.

Frequently asked questions

How do I split a PDF into separate pages?

Choose your PDF, select “Single pages (one PDF per page)” and then the split button. You get one PDF per page, named like report-page-7.pdf, which you can download one by one or together as a ZIP file. To keep pages together in groups, choose “Every N pages (several PDFs)” instead, for example 2 pages per file.

How do I extract pages into a new PDF?

Choose “Extract pages into one PDF” and type the pages you want, for example 1-3, 5, 8-. Ranges use a dash, pages are separated by commas, and “8-” means page 8 to the end. The pages are copied into one new PDF in the order you typed them.

Can I split a PDF without uploading it?

Yes. Splitting runs in your browser, on your device. The PDF is never uploaded or stored, and the site’s security policy blocks the page from sending data to other servers.

Is there a size limit?

Up to 500 MB on computers and 150 MB on phones and tablets. Above 100 MB (50 MB on phones) it may be slow, depending on your device’s memory.

How do I split a PDF on iPhone?

Open this page in Safari, tap Choose file and pick the PDF from Files or another app. After splitting, tap Download PDF, or Download all (ZIP) for several parts. Safari keeps downloads in the Files app, which can also open the ZIP file.
