Merge PDF files
Combine PDF files into one document, right in your browser. Nothing is uploaded.
Drop PDF files here
Or choose them from your device. Your files stay on this device.
PDF · up to 500 MB in total (150 MB on phones and tablets)
How to merge PDF files
- Drop your PDF files on the box above, or select Choose files. You can also paste files with Ctrl+V (⌘V).
- Put the files in the order you want. Drag a file by its handle, or use the arrow buttons next to it.
- Optionally change the File name, then select the merge button. It shows how many files will be combined, for example Merge 3 PDFs.
- Select Download merged PDF. The pages of each file follow each other in the order of the list.
Formats and limits
- Accepted files
- PDF documents (.pdf). Files are checked by their content, not their name.
- Number of files
- 2 to 100 on a computer, up to 50 on phones and tablets.
- Total size
- Up to 500 MB on a computer and 150 MB on phones and tablets. Above 100 MB (50 MB on phones and tablets) merging may be slow.
- Output
- One PDF, named merged.pdf unless you change it.
What is kept in the merged file
Every page is copied as it is: its size, orientation and content stay the same, so a document with A4 and Letter pages keeps both sizes. Text stays selectable and searchable where it was before.
The merged file is a new document, so the title and author stored in the originals are not copied, and bookmarks (the outline shown in a PDF reader’s sidebar) are not carried over. Fillable form fields may appear but are not guaranteed to keep working. If you need any of these, check the merged file before you share it.
Troubleshooting
- “… is password-protected.” Encrypted PDFs can’t be merged yet. Open the file in a PDF reader that knows the password, save it as a new PDF without a password, and add that file instead.
- “… isn’t a supported file” or “… is a JPEG image.” The file isn’t a PDF, even if its name ends in .pdf. Images need to be converted to PDF first.
- “… couldn’t be read.” The file is damaged or was only partly downloaded. Download it again, or open and re-save it in a PDF reader.
- “Adding … would bring the total to …” The files together are over the size limit for your device. The file is marked in the list and left out; remove some files or merge in two rounds.
- “Your browser ran out of memory.” Merge fewer or smaller files at a time, close other tabs, or use a computer instead of a phone.
How your data stays private
Everything happens in your browser, on your device. Your files and text are never uploaded, never stored, and never put in the address bar.
- The site’s security policy (
connect-src 'self') tells your browser to block any attempt by the page to send data to another server. - Only your preferences, such as the theme and a tool’s last-used options, are saved in your browser’s local storage. Never your content.
- To check it yourself, open your browser’s developer tools, select the Network tab, and use the tool: no request carries your data.
There is no account, no sign-up and no watermark. After your first visit, pages open without a connection; a tool’s larger parts, such as the PDF and image engines, are saved the first time you use it, so it works offline from then on.
Frequently asked questions
Are my PDF files uploaded to a server?
No. OfflineBench merges your PDFs inside your browser, on your device. The files are never sent anywhere, and the site’s security policy blocks the page from sending data to other servers. You can check this in your browser’s developer tools: open the Network tab and merge your files.
Can I merge password-protected PDFs?
Not yet. A password-protected file is marked in the list and left out; the other files stay usable. Remove the password first (for example, open the file in a PDF reader that knows the password and save it as a new PDF), then add it again.
Is there a limit on the number or size of files?
On a computer you can merge up to 100 files with a total of 500 MB; on phones and tablets, up to 50 files and 150 MB. Above 100 MB (50 MB on phones and tablets) merging still works but can be slow, because everything happens in your device’s memory.
Does merging keep bookmarks and form fields?
Every page keeps its size, orientation and content. Bookmarks (the document outline) are not carried over, and fillable form fields may stop working, so check the merged file if you rely on them.
Do I need to sign up or install anything?
No. Merge PDF is free and needs no account or app. It runs in the browser you already use, on a computer or a phone.
