JPG, PNG, WebP, AVIF, GIF, BMP, HEIC · up to 100 MB per image, 50 images
How to convert images
- Select Choose files or drop your images on the page, for example HEIC photos from an iPhone.
- Choose what to Convert to. Auto, the default, makes JPG, or PNG for images with transparent areas.
- Select Convert image, then download each image or all of them as one ZIP file.
Options
- Convert to
- JPG opens everywhere. PNG is lossless and keeps transparency. WebP and AVIF usually give smaller files and keep transparency too; AVIF is the smallest but slowest to create.
- Quality
- 0–100 for JPG, WebP and AVIF, 85 by default: a high setting where differences from the original are hard to see. Not used for PNG.
- Background for transparent areas
- Shown when you choose JPG and an image may have transparent areas. JPG can’t store transparency, so they are filled with white (the default), black or a custom color.
What changes when you convert
The image is decoded and saved again in the new format. Photos taken sideways are turned upright, so they look right in every app. Animated GIF, WebP and PNG images are converted from their first frame. Converted files carry no location, camera or date details.
Formats and limits
- Input
- JPG, PNG, WebP, AVIF, GIF (first frame), BMP and HEIC/HEIF.
- Output
- JPG, PNG, WebP or AVIF, with the original name and the new extension, e.g. IMG_1234.jpg. When the format doesn’t change, -converted is added. Several images also as one ZIP.
- Size
- Up to 100 MB per image and 50 images at a time, and up to 120 megapixels per image (50 on phones and tablets).
- HEIC
- Safari opens HEIC itself. In other browsers, HEIC photos are decoded with libheif, open-source software licensed under the LGPL-3.0, loaded only when a HEIC photo is converted. Its license and source code are on the licenses page.
Troubleshooting
- “… is a HEIC photo that couldn’t be opened.” The file may be damaged, or the decoder didn’t load (for example on a very slow connection). Try again, or export the photo as JPG from your phone.
- “Animated image: only the first frame is converted” next to a file. JPG, PNG, WebP and AVIF are saved here as still images, so the result holds one picture.
- AVIF takes a long time. AVIF encoding is slow: about 30 seconds per 12-megapixel photo on a fast computer, and longer on a phone. WebP is about six times faster.
How your data stays private
Everything happens in your browser, on your device. Your files and text are never uploaded, never stored, and never put in the address bar.
- The site’s security policy (
connect-src 'self') tells your browser to block any attempt by the page to send data to another server. - Only your preferences, such as the theme and a tool’s last-used options, are saved in your browser’s local storage. Never your content.
- To check it yourself, open your browser’s developer tools, select the Network tab, and use the tool: no request carries your data.
There is no account, no sign-up and no watermark. After your first visit, pages open without a connection; a tool’s larger parts, such as the PDF and image engines, are saved the first time you use it, so it works offline from then on.
Frequently asked questions
How do I convert HEIC to JPG?
Drop the HEIC photos on this page; Auto converts them to JPG. Select Convert image, then download them one by one or as a ZIP file. You don’t need Safari: other browsers decode HEIC with an open-source decoder served by this site, loaded only when a HEIC photo is converted. Photos keep their upright orientation.
Is it safe to convert iPhone photos online?
Here, yes: the photos are converted in your browser, on your device. Nothing is uploaded or stored, and the site’s security policy blocks the page from sending data to other servers. The converted files also don’t carry the photos’ location or camera details.
What happens to transparency when converting PNG to JPG?
JPG can’t store transparency, so transparent areas are filled with a background color: white by default, or black or any color you choose. Auto keeps images with transparent areas as PNG instead.
Which format is smallest: WebP, AVIF or JPG?
Usually AVIF, then WebP, then JPG for a similar look: WebP is often noticeably smaller than JPG and AVIF smaller still, but AVIF takes much longer to create. JPG opens everywhere, so it is the safest choice for sharing.
Can I convert many images at once?
Yes, up to 50 at a time, in mixed formats. Download each converted image, or all of them as one ZIP file.
